Plucked instruments

With the first guitars built around 1800 the plucked instruments industry began to develop as an independent branch of musical instruments making
in the Vogtland.
In the mid-19th century the first zithers were produced in Markneukirchen, and in the following decades all kinds of plucked instruments were made here.
Today, the Vogtland-based master workshops - usually family-operated businesses with many decades of tradition - produce high-grade soloist's instruments.
